I am in the business of transformation!
Welcome to Thrive! There are times in life when we simply feel “stuck”. Despite how bleak things may seem, there is always reason to hope for change. I assume my clients are caring and capable, but have simply come to a point where their previous ways of coping are not meeting up to their current challenges. My purposeful questions and insightful guidance helps clients connect with their best selves, allowing them to unlock solutions to the challenges they face.
I work with individuals & couples around such challenges as: Relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, anger, self-esteem, parenting, habit/behavior change, trauma, grief, binge eating, weight loss, and coping with chronic illness.
My past career as a Personal Trainer and Weight Management Specialist informs my interest in both physical and mental health. I recognize the impact healthy living has on mental health (and vice versa). As a result, my psychotherapy approach is an integration of evidence-based psychotherapy treatment interventions for mental health & improved relationships, with education and counseling that promote healthy lifestyles.
The psychotherapy treatment models I draw from in my work with clients include:
- Solution-Focused Therapy, to help clients create a vision of what they can become, then incrementally attain their goals.
- Bowen Family Therapy, to help clients become more authentically connected to both themselves, and to their loved ones.
- Motivational Interviewing, to help clients move from a place of “thinking about change” or “feeling defeated”, to actually making the changes they intend to.
- I also use principles from Mindfulness Meditation and mindful awareness to improve mental health and relationships.
- In my Wellness Counseling I provide evidence-based health & wellness information.
For the past 14 years I have held ACE certifications in: Group Fitness, Personal Training, Weight Management Specialist, and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. However, I consider myself foremost a Psychotherapist, with fitness and nutrition expertise.
I earned a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from North Central University in 2017, and am currently pursuing licensure in the state of Tennessee. I received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 2002 in Cultural Anthropology and Human & Family Development. As part of my undergraduate senior thesis, I lived in a rural Maya village in Guatemala and studied how depression was manifested and dealt with among the Maya people. I have published book chapters with Oxford University Press on the following topics: The Neuroscience of Hedonic Overeating, Depression Among The Maya of Guatemala, and The Effects of Life Transitions on Mayan People.
I founded Thrive Counseling Solutions, LLC in 2017 as part of my mission to help people unlock the awesomeness within, so they can live their most healthy and happy lives. I truly believe it is within everyone’s capacity to experience more joy, relationship satisfaction, and wellness, then they may be currently experiencing. I want to help you experience that empowerment!
Originally from Indianapolis, I have grown to love the culture, landscape and outdoor recreation of this great state of Tennessee, where I have made a home with my husband of 17 years and three children.
I look forward to working with you, and am honored to walk beside you in your Transformation Journey!
